Heat Pump Services

A broken heat pump can be a huge financial burden and inconvenience. In Georgia, where temperatures can drop significantly during the winter, maintaining your heat pump is critical to prevent the health risks linked to extended cold exposure.

When it comes to heat pump repair, ensuring quality work means finding the right service provider. This is because an untrained technician who lacks experience can do more harm than good. Whether it’s a small repair or a complete replacement, you need to rely on experts.

At Young’s Mechanical, LLC, our highly trained service technicians are available 24/7 to repair your heat pump quickly and effectively. Our service is aimed at ensuring the long-term health of the whole system, maximizing efficiency, and addressing the underlying cause rather than just treating the symptoms. Our geothermal heat pump systems provide a sustainable and efficient way to heat and cool your home. We offer installation and maintenance services for these advanced systems.

How Do Heat Pumps Work?

The purpose of a heat pump is to transfer heat from one place to another, be it indoors or outdoors. In homes that do not have access to natural gas, heat pumps provide a reliable and efficient heating and cooling solution.

In most cases, heat pumps are used to remove heat from the air or ground to heat a building, although they can also cool one. Due to the similarities in their operating principles, heat pumps and air conditioners are very similar. A typical air conditioner uses refrigerant to absorb unwanted heat in your home and expel it outside. Heat pumps use the same cycle, but in reverse, to extract outside heat and transfer it inside.

As opposed to conventional heating and cooling appliances, heat pumps can often cool and heat a room at a much lower cost. Because of this, heat pumps are among the most energy-efficient systems available for heating and cooling homes. As well as being extremely efficient, heat pumps also use far less energy to generate heat than traditional heaters, making them more eco-friendly than gas-burning furnaces.

Types of Heat Pumps

A heat pump can be classified into three main types: A heat pump can be classified into three main types:

1. Air Source

An air source, or air-to-air pump, draws heat from the outdoors and transfers it into your home. It is a simple and inexpensive heating system that requires little space to install.

Unfortunately, this type of heat pump has a downside. Increased temperature difference between indoors and outdoors decreases their efficiency. In other words, when temperatures are very cold or very hot outside, the heat pump may have difficulty providing adequate heating or cooling inside.

2. Water Source

A water source heat pump is only an option if there is a body of water nearby, such as a pond or a lake. In this type of heat pump, heat is extracted from water by pumping the water through the heat pump directly from the source. Compared to ground source pumps, water source pumps can provide a more consistent temperature and are cheaper to install.

One downside is that a second heat source may be necessary as backup during the winter months because water source pumps require constant water flow.

3. Geothermal

Also known as a ground heat pump, geothermal heat pumps pull heat from the ground to transfer it into your home. Since it is almost always warmer below ground during winter, geothermal heat pumps are better than air source heat pumps for winter months.

To install the system properly, however, technicians will need to excavate underneath your home. Newer systems, such as direct injection systems, help make this process faster and cheaper, but they’ll still be more expensive and labor-intensive to install compared to air source heat pumps.
